Central Otago House
In response to the majestic landscape, a poetic call was set - 'to let the land speak’.
To meet this ideal a pavilion responds to the ridgelines and sky, while a private suite burrows into an adjacent hillside. Contrasting forms, aerial and earthed, open and enclosed, were each crafted to celebrate the spectacular alpine environment.
A light wing roof counterpoints expressive in-situ concrete, cedar ceilings float while mass is cast like timeless strata. The brief is met through evoking an architecture of place, a deep respect for the landscape and those that treasure it.
